Back to Basics

When I first began coaching in 2010 I also began researching a way to make my approach and perspective of Presence and Confidence adaptable to an audience that was not from a performance background.

I’d spent a little bit of time in Corporate America prior to taking my first client and after I completed my Master of Fine Arts in Performance. I knew, from personal observation and conversations that the type of awarenesses and involved in Theatre and Acting could be incredibly useful and helpful to so many outside of the Performance world.

The study of Theatre/Acting/Performance is the study of How to Human.

Good process as an actor is a study of self and other.
It includes investigations like:
What is this person’s experience (the character)
How does this person move (literally and figuratively) through the world.
What are they after? What do they want/need? What motivates them?

My training - through The Conservatory of Performing Arts in Pittsburgh PA, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NY, NY, my graduate work at Theatre School in Chicago Illinois (DePaul University) and more recently through my study via the Mask and Movement Theatre of Matteo D’estro (San Miniato Italy) - has been heavily weighted towards investigation through the Phyiscal Body & Movement. Yoga was a required class. We touched on movement practices like Feldenkreis, Laban and Alexander. We played with vocal production and its connection to the body. Emotion - and its connection to the Body.

And when clients approach me about building their confidence, getting up a stage and delivering a speech, wanting to uplevel their Charisma … whatever the task is, we start with the body.

But that’s only the beginning.

Early on, I devised the first iteration of The Confidence Wheel. I was on the right track but not quite there.

I eventually recognized that it was missing an element - Breath. And so I revised it.

We’re going to dig into these different facets and how you can improve your Speaking, Leadership, Communication and Presence by investigating. these dynamics. It’s going to be an adventure!
